Principal's Message

Julie Prestsater
Dear AEC Students and Families,

As we head into December, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible start we’ve had to the school year. At the Alternative Education Center, we continue to create opportunities, make meaningful connections, and show one another grace — values that guide every classroom, every program, and every student we serve. I am so proud of the work happening across Valley View, Chaffey District Online, Community Day School, CSOP, GED Renew, and DASP.

This season brings a natural pause — a chance to reflect, to reset, and to prepare for a strong and successful second semester. Thank you for partnering with us and staying engaged in your student’s progress. Your support makes a tremendous difference in their growth and success.

Finish Strong: End-of-Semester Reminders

December marks the final stretch of the fall semester. Students should:

     - Attend school daily and arrive on time
     - Complete all assignments
     - Check Aeries and Canvas regularly
     - Ask for help early and often

Families, please continue to monitor your student’s progress through Aeries Parent Portal, ParentSquare, and Canvas — our district’s communication and instructional tools that keep you informed every step of the way.

Minimum Days – December 17–19

To support finals, student conferences, and end-of-semester needs, CDOHS, CSOP, and Valley View High School will be on minimum day schedules from:

     - December 17, 18, and 19
     - Please check individual school schedules for dismissal times.

December Events & Opportunities

We have a fun and meaningful month planned for our students and families:

Family Night: Holiday Wreath Making — December 11, 2025

Join us for:

5:30 p.m. Hot Dog Dinner & Resource Fair
6:00 p.m. Make-and-Take Holiday Wreath Activity

This year, we’re adding a special treat — an opportunity to walk through our Winter Wonderland, a festive experience created by our talented students in the main building at Valley View High School. You won’t want to miss it!

Attendance Matters

Strong attendance is one of the greatest predictors of academic success. As we approach winter break, it becomes even more important to show up and stay engaged.

Students should aim to maintain:
     - 80% or higher attendance
     - Positive behavior
     - Consistent course and credit completion

If your student needs support with attendance, motivation, or organization, please reach out to their counselor or administrator. We are here to help.

Future Ready Habits: Be Present. Be Ready. Move With Purpose. Dress for Success.

As a reminder, our schoolwide expectations include keeping cell phones in backpacks during instructional time. Thank you for reinforcing these habits with your student—these routines help students stay focused, build self-management skills, and learn effectively.

A Season of Gratitude

December gives us a chance to pause and appreciate the community we’ve built together. Every day, I see kindness, resilience, responsibility, and growth from our students and staff. I am deeply grateful for your trust, involvement, and partnership.

Whether your family celebrates a holiday or simply enjoys a peaceful break, I wish you rest, joy, and meaningful moments together.

Winter Break

     - No School: December 22 – January 2
     - Classes Resume: Monday, January 5, 2026

We hope students return rested, refreshed, and ready for a positive and productive spring semester.

Thank you for being part of the AEC family. Let’s finish December strong and head into the new year with hope, purpose, and momentum.

Happy Holidays,

Mrs. Prestsater
